James Hanrahan is a lecturer in Tourism Management in the School of Business and Social Science at Atlantic Technological University Sligo, Ireland. He has worked as a tour guide, tour operator, tourism manager, tourism entrepreneur, tourism consultant and lecturer in Ireland, New Zealand, Hawaii, Bulgaria, California, and Britain. He has a key set of publications related to sustainable destination management, climate change and tourism, circular economy, tourism indicators, biosecurity and web 4.0. He continues to work for the public and private sector in tourism planning and development. He is the director of the Sustainable Tourism Observatory at ATU (STORY@ATU) which aims to help tackle the social, cultural, economic, and environmental challenges facing the tourism industry across the island of Ireland. STORY@ATU is a collaboration between the three ATU campuses. It aims to build on new and existing partnerships with key stakeholders in local authorities, state agencies, tourism industry, enterprises, and communities across the island and internationally to address local challenges and collaborate with national and international researchers on global solutions.
