Debbie is an Associate Professor in Human Geography at the University of Oxford. She is jointly appointed between the School of Geography and the Environment, and the Sustainable Urban Development programme in the Department for Continuing Education. Debbie completed her master’s degree (Geography, with distinction) at King’s College London in 2010, PhD at the University of Otago (New Zealand) in 2013, and undertook postdoctoral training at the Centre for Sustainability (Otago, New Zealand, 2014-2016), and the Transport Studies Unit, University of Oxford (2016-2017).

Debbie leads research into sustainable passenger and freight mobilities, with a particular focus on those modes and sectors considered to be ‘hard to decarbonise’. She is particularly focused on just transitions, and equity dimensions of sustainability transitions and low/no-carbon futures. Debbie is the Editor-in-Chief of the Association of American Geographers Review of Books journal and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism, the Journal of Transport Geography, Tourism Geographies, Applied Mobilities and Global Networks.
