Jarkko Saarinen is a Professor of Human Geography at the University of Oulu, Finland. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Visiting Professor at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering, Sustainable Destination Development, Uppsala University, Sweden. His research interests include tourism and sustainable development, tourism and climate change adaptation, resilience studies, tourism-community relations, and nature conservation and wilderness studies.<\/p>\n
His recent publications include co-authored and co-edited books: Climate Change and Tourism in Southern Africa (2022, Routledge); Southern African Perspectives in Sustainable Tourism Management (2022, Springer); Tourism, Change and the Global South (Routledge, 2021), and Resilient Destinations in Tourism (2019, Routledge). He is the President of the Finnish National Committee of Geography, and since 2013 he has been a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.
